Artist Statement:
It all began with Lincoln Logs and Legos. At the tender age of five, Eric Butterworth began creating his first architectural masterpieces: a multi-tiered Lincoln Log cabins and Lego castles complete with fully functional drawbridges.
Butterworks Designs is the lifelong culmination of countless hours spent toying with Lego’s and Lincoln Logs, five years studying architecture and art in college, and a four year apprenticeship at Timeless Sculptures, an art studio devoted to the production of wood sculptures and sculptured natural furnishings.
Eric Butterworth spent his formative years at the University of Maryland, where he majored in Architecture. There, he began to push the limits of conventional thought and creative design. Although he found the program to be a bit conservative for his unique and independent thought, it served as a good place to develop his design skills.
His designs and ideas were often perceived as too avant-garde for the classically-oriented context of the Maryland and Washington D.C. area. This reaction prompted Eric to reexamine his chosen path and consider paving his own trail.
With this newfound mentality, Eric decided to spend a summer in Paris, France, studying architecture and basking in a foreign culture overflowing ...
