Artist Statement for Brandi Young

|
I enjoy producing simple designs that make an impression on the senses through the use of vivid color. On those occasions that I do not have specific subject matter in mind, I will start a new piece by adding my base colors and then allow the brushstrokes from that initial color(s) to guide what the painting will become. This method frees my imagination and provides many delightful accidents to influence the finished product.
I have always enjoyed in expressing myself artistically, and the one consistent expression for me has been painting. Pushed and encouraged by those around me I studied Visual Art briefly at Otterbein College. Never really appreciating my own work, I changed my focus to Psychology. The years following my graduation from Wright State University with a BA in Psychology, I realized how important art was to me, and now have future plans of continuing my education with a focus on Illustration.
