ARTIST PROFILE:
Anderson's work involves the use of inter-city images in a process of extraction to achieve a final representation which is both recognizable and abstract in design. He is drawn to the inter-city area of Wilmington, Delaware [and has been for the past 17 years]. He does however, on occasion, venture farther afield to record images of such places as New York City, other areas of Delaware, and the southwestern states.
His work has both a design element and a notion of recorded history. Anderson's works of the past 17 years has recorded the ever-changing inter-city landscape. He never adds to the scene, but often deletes elements for the sake of clarity of design.
Many of his works may be interpreted as political statement. As for example in Lomas Gateway, in which the banking, government, and church community are pictured in an uneasy state of harmony. Other works compare and contrast such things as the neo-classical design of city hall with the chaos of a Roy Rogers restaurant, in Roys on French Street. However, the images not oppress the viewer with the artist's opinions and may easily be seen for their esthetic value alone.
