Artist Statement for Philip Campbell

I have always struggled to verbally communicate my specific feelings.
I have always wanted to write my stories.
But it just doesn’t work.
And so I paint.
I toil over each piece.
I shoot dozens of digital photographs.
Spend days, sometimes months editing.
The image is then drawn on a clay-coated panel and painted.
The process allows me to define and redefine my thoughts.
The paintings are my specific thoughts.
Whether the viewer gets it or not is irrelevant.
I am satisfied that I have said exactly what I intended to.
Each piece is a specific statement.
This is what I find hilarious, stupid, important, beautiful.
This is how I feel.
The things I love.
The things I hate.
I paint what I know.
