Artist Statement:
I have been an artist at heart
for as long as I can remember,
yet it's only in retirement
that I've had time to pursue
my passion. Watercolor and
pastels are currently my
preferred media, although I
have also worked in oils in
the past. I am a strong
believer in lifelong learning
and continue to take classes
in painting at every
opportunity. Among the best
instructors I've ever studied
under is Kathy Esch, who
continues to be an inspiration
to me.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration Traveling and collecting images via photography to paint. Painting these special images always takes me right back to the original time and place, allowing me to re-live some of my happiest memories!

Why Did You Become An Artist I have loved to draw and paint ever since I was a child, but was discouraged from pursuing an art career because I am color challenged. Instead I became a writer and editor ... and eventually, a public relations counselor, writing and editing from the other side of the fence, including ghostwriting. I picked up the paint brush again about six years ago, when I signed up for a watercolor class at a community art center. That triggered my passion for art and renewed my creative spirit! I have been spending almost every spare moment since painting, or taking photographs to paint.

Your Personal Biography Carolyn Benkert Bishop has been a lifelong artist at heart. Yet, it's only in the past couple of years, since she semi-retired, then finally retired, that she's found time to really pursue her passion --- depicting the earth's riches, primarily in floral paintings and landscapes. Watercolor and pastels have been her preferred media in the past several years, and both have presented to her a great yet rewarding challenge.

Carolyn grew up in Monroe, Wisconsin, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A former magazine editor and writer, she lived most of her adult life in New York City and Aspen, Colorado, before returning to her roots in Wisconsin. where she was a public relations counselor and partner at Hiebing in Madison until her retirement in September 2007. Carolyn and her husband Lloyd reside in the Goodland Park neighborhood of Madison.
