Artist Statement for Claudia Barber |

Painting is, for me, a reflection - a visual picture as it were - of my often confused and very busy artist's mind. When a painting comes into my mind, it creates almost a madness to produce it no matter what I'm doing at the time. The painting's vision mesmerizes me.
I formed my love of art in my early childhood. As a child, I played with matches, but not to set fires. I used the burned out matches to create drawings that expressed how I was feeling. Later in school, I excelled in art and science but my parents, being "practical" people, knew I couldn't make a living doing art. So, with their enthusiastic support, I learned and have made my living for the past 20 years, as a proofreader and desktop publisher.
For many years, art, as its own expression, was out of the picture. I finally couldn't ignore what I call my "Muse" anymore and I began doing small works in pastels. Since then, I have rediscovered my great love of art and have been working to share that love with the world.
