Artist Statement:
I have been exposing myself to
a lot of different forms of
communication. I'm an
avid film fan, experienced
sequential artist (re: comic
books and storyboard
artist) and published writer
and illustrator. I play the
digeridoo (Australian pipe) in
the safety of my own home, and
I do a mean Jimmy Stewart
imitation... and several
Muppets. The ADOBE logo is
tattooed to my forehead, and
Saul Bass is my patron saint.
I am proud of my balance
between right brain and left
brain thinking - (logical
creativity?) - my ability to
understand the constraints of
an audience's
expectations and just how to
nudge those expectations out
of the box a little (or a lot,
depending).
I constantly critique the
effectiveness of TV
commercials, and am a fan of
the Clio awards when I get the
chance to see them. I have
been designing logos for
imaginary rock bands and
movies since I was 8 years
old, when the personalities of
typefaces were my childhood
friends. We still stay in
touch, although many of them
are bitter with all the
attention to Copperplate
Gothic in recent years...
Stodgy but reliable old
Helvetica still stays fit and
flexible thanks to his
personal ...
