Miami native Cecil began art studies at 21 in Miami at an evening adult art class in North Miami High School for $1 per 9 weeks with Patrick DeLong. She went on to study at Pensacola Jr. College, Pensacola Art Center, Seminole Com. College where she received an AA in 1983. She continued at U. of Florida while her husband Abbott studied for a Juris Doctor. Later she received Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, the Arts, painting, sculpture, music, theatre and creative writing at U.C.F. in 1986.
She also studied painting at the U. of Florida with Hiram Williams, and P.R. McIntosh and Emil Holzhauer, both students of great American Impressionist Robert Henri. Cecil also studied welding, electroforming, wearable art and jewelry at Arrowmont School of Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN and independent study with well known jeweler Ruth Roach in Bradenton.
Her paintings, sculptures, wearable art works, experimental mixed media works and one of a kind jewelry pieces are in many collections. To pay for all the materials and study, Cecil worked as a photojournalist and feature writer for Florida Today, Melbourne Times, Reuters and Fairchild Publications for over 9 years while also tending her family of husband Abbott and 4 children.

She has been invited to exhibit works online on websites in many countries including the NASA website. Her website with her registered domain and trademarked name is at http://www.spacescapes.com. She studied digital art at McFatter Technical School in 1995 receiving certification in Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark and Painter.
In 1996, by invitation from Stetson U. computer and art departments, she helped set up the Digital Institute at Stetson U., Deland and taught Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark and Painter 1996-97.
In 1995, her digital work was shown in Beijing, China at the 4th Women's Congress sponsored by the United Nations at a pioneering computer event called World’s Women On-line at http://wwol.inre.asu.edu/ chaired by Sen. Hillary Clinton, now running for President of the U.S.
At Cologne Art Fair 2004, Germany, 5 digital creations were alternatively beamed on a 30 ft. wall at an old brick munitions factory now a major art venue in Cologne and Europe. Thousands attended the so called "Electronic Wall" in the International Invitational Show with 12 artists from Japan, U.S. Australia and Germany.

Cecil won a Kodak Innovator Award for large format digital work printed on a 36" Encad Novajet printer that was exhibited at Siggraph 2001 in Mascone Hall in San Francisco. She had a digital work "Koi" published in Photography, 7th Ed. Prentice Hall. Her works are included in many websites.
See Cecil Herring, Google or Spacescapes on any search engine. She has worked for over 50 years as an artist.
Most recently, she began to focus on her own home area of Central Florida where she has lived for 40 years. She fell in love with Florida landscapes and seascapes and has painted more than 50 works in her new Central Florida series. She still creates works in mixed media, sculpture and digital works.
