Artist Statement:
My work explores my love, respect, and admiration for feminine beauty, both personal and physical, as well as a deconstruction of idealist concepts of beauty imposed by the media, stereotypical masculine viewpoints, and society in general.
My inspiration comes from women I encounter on a daily basis. Women in restaurants, banks, grocery stores, subways, buses, workplaces, friends, or even just walking by on the street all provide inspiration for me. Their feelings, emotions, charm, kindness, grace, walk, things they say or something as simple as the light gently cascading across their face can speak to me as something that I desire to capture on canvas as an expression of their beauty. I use shape, color, tone, light, and line to translate these sometimes less tangible concepts to a picture that I hope communicates to, and evokes in, both an emotional and intellectual response from the viewer.
I do not believe in working from publicly induced "Ideals" of beauty, such as those put forth by media, or masculine stereotypes of what should be beautiful. I try in my work, to capture elements that I believe are individual to each model I work with. I try to see in each woman her ...
