Gwen has been exploring vivid color in her newest pieces, exagerating the natural colors seen in the world, you will see this in works such as "Midnight with Victoria" and "Sunset in Ritas Wake" and with the most recent abstract "Réve Rouge". Look for more exciting vivid color pieces from Gwen in the near future as she has several already that are in process. This new vivid color series has been exciting for Gwen as it is color that often draws her to others work and she has truly been enjoying the application of raw but sensitive strong color in each piece.
Gwen wants you to know a little about what inspires her so that you may have some understanding of the direction of Gwens work. I am sure that it is clear that Gwen likes to paint water lilies, although her depictions of the water lillies is quite different than those that have come before her, but perhaps what is not clear is that Gwen also has a great love of water gardening. Gwen is particularly fond of a water lilly called "Victoria", one of the reasons her water lilly paintings are so different than most you see. It is a massive plant with pads that can reach up to 7 feet across. Gwen has a large pond of her own that she and her husband put in. Gwen enjoys the interaction with the pond and draws a great deal of inspiration from it. Gwen has a Victoria growing in her pond and often paints from this plant. With the huge leaves and gigantic white night blooming flowers that smell a little like grape juice, Gwen can't help but be mesmorized. Gwen has many pieces based on Victoria as you can see, but also likes to paint other things. Anything beautiful that captivates Gwen with color, shape or intensity will usually become her subject matter. Gwen also loves the reflections that happen on the water, so many of her paintings incorporate reflections. Another facsination for Gwen is weather. Everything from sunsets to lightning to fabulous clouds become her inspiration so you will also find these things in her work.
Please enjoy viewing Gwens work and thank you for your interest. :) Don't forget to sign Gwens guestbook and join Gwens email list while you are here.
