"Horsing Around opens tonight in Lexington at New Editions Gallery in Chevy Chase. Featured are paintings by Kansas artist Nancy Christy-Moore and bronze sculpture by Lexingtonian Ted Kennedy. The theme is horses.
Christy-Moore's images have a certain dynamism in the designed-in sense of motion. Her palette ranges from warm desert colors at one end to deep, rich purples and blues at the other. This is not like equestrian art you usually see in Kentucky; it looks like it's made for a Southwestern audience and market. If you've ever been to Albuquerque or Santa Fe, you'll know what that means. If you haven't, then it should be pointed out that the emphasis is on expressive flash and generalized mystical attributes of horses, rather than on the animal as linchpin in the racing industry."
