I've been concentrating on a theme of the artist & model in the studio. Here you will find genre paintings (in addition to other figurative work) of dedicated artists sharing the fee of a model. It's important for me to capture the intensity, action and emotion... both on and off the podium.

Color-massing Technique © C.Berk:
Color-mass painting is the exact opposite of drawing. Just because artists use brushes, doesn't mean that they’re painting. However, when scrubbing with a brush, from the center moving out, an edge can be created by juxtaposing one color spot next to another. Placing a light against a dark, a cool against a warm, vague next to defined, a contour will emerge.
Without filling in between lines, colors truly interact and the paint develops a visual life of its own...breathing undulating until each color functions to the individual artist’s temperament. Because unwanted “mud” may occur, by bleeding a color’s edge into its complementory color, this technique is not achieved without significant practice.
