Artist Statement for Cindy Rodriguez

In the early 60's my family moved from the east coast of the U.S. to the island of Malta. It was there that I realized I wanted to be an artist. After traveling to the Philippines and England, I settled in Los Angeles playing bass in punk bands-including Haircuts That Kill, a band led by Chuck Mosley (Faith No More's original singer), and an even more obscure band, Mr. Fun, which consisted of the remnants of the members of Haircuts That Kill.
During this time I continued to paint, everything from old guitars, a drumkit, hats and clothing, and whatever else I could get my hands on.
Over the past years I've painted sculptures of animals for a collectible company, and customized furniture and accessories for Dreamkids, a designer furniture store that was based in Del Mar, California. I've exhibited at shows throughout California and have art in private collections in the U.S. and Canada.
My paintings stem from dreams and skewed visions of life, a surreal view of how my brain sees things. Painting continues to be the constant thread in my life.
Currently, my most recent small paintings are at
Planet Rooth Studio and Gallery
