Artist Statement:
Charles Hargenrader : Woodturner
Charles grew up in Northwestern Pennsylvania in the Allegany mountain region. He discovered early on that he was a gifted woodworker. Growing up in an area where very large cherry trees are harvested he started making furniture as a hobby. As an ordained elder in the Nazarene Church travels include Europe & various States. Because of his vocation his family has lived in Colorado, Great Britain, Florida, New Jersey, Germany, & now the great State of Maine. After moving to Maine he remembered how he enjoyed turning wood on a lathe in high school. So he purchased an old spindle turning machine built in 1874. His background as a welder/fabricator before entering full time ministry, allowed him to convert the lathe into a bowl turning unit and creating his own turning tools. Being an outdoorsman has helped him appreciate the splendor of creation, and has helped inspire his work fashioned on his antique lathe. His love for woodturning is a reflection of the beauty that is enjoyed in his nature loving experiences throughout the world. Charles is a member of the American Association of Woodturners, Maine chapter of AAW, United Maine Craftsman, & MaineMade.com...
