Artist Statement for Claire Hogue-Reid

I love doing landscapes en pleinaire.Nature is a reflection of my Creator in all His beauty. I am a secular franciscan.As a franciscan I feel God's presence whenever I am in some peaceful place in the woods or out in the fields among cattle or with other small creatures. I also love to paint natural subjects from photographs. I have a friend (Phyllis Kelly) who is a gifted photographer.Her photographs inspire me with their beauty. Several of her photographs, in this portfolio, were interpreted by me in watercolor.
I love playing with color and having surprises and serendipities that happen in watercolor.
My work is eclectic. I will paint whatever inspires me, events in my life, beauty of the landscape,and people involved in my life.
I have an associates degree in liberal arts and the humanities. I have taken many workshops conducted by many nationally known artists.
My work has won many awards since 1972.I love doing portraits in oils and have had many commissions in this area.
In the past I have given workshops in watercolors and drawing at Clinton Community College, The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, and Michael's Arts and Crafts Store. Today I am giving watercolor workshops at the TipTop Gallery and framing shop.
