Artist Statement:
CLAIRE MARIE GOSSELIN M.A.,has participated in several exhibitions in Canada, Mexico, Europe and the United States.
Since 1999,she has participated in the democratization of art and teaches painting as well as the color theories of Johannes Itten.
After several years of experimental work in painting, photography and performance, the recent oil paintings on linen canvas from the series,A THOUSAND AND ONE ISLANDS, are the result of a hike taken on a beautiful morning. The paintings inspired from this ordinary day enter into a sphere of contemporary questioning of the Christ-like mystery, devotion and the perpetual movement of intellectual survival that nourishes the artist’s formal research.
That morning’s stroll by the Thousand Island River lasted a thousand years, a walk like the course of a lifetime. One hour between similar and non similar. A thousand and one undulating reflections appeared on the bi-dimensional plane. In the fateful space between the support and the surface, the id mirrors the vanity of vanities of this world, where a frenzy of perpetual movement escapes, surges, dims, multiplies, dies and lives again.
