Artist Statement:
The pottery I have been making over the last 20 years has been almost
exclusively functional. My latest work represents an effort to reach beyond
the basics of strictly functional pottery. I derive inspiration from Oriental,
Mediterranean, & contemporary British and American pottery and I also allow my
passions for Surrealism, Impressionism, geometric patterns, nature, and music
to inspire my creative process.
I started my professional career as a potter in 1981 in Wilmington N.C.
After spending the next 7 years working for various studio and production potters
along the North Carolina coast and in Seagrove, NC I decided to take a job at a
New Hampshire-based salt-glaze pottery. After 9 years of intense production
throwing at this company, I started working on a pottery line for myself.
Jeff Brown Pottery is housed in an eighteenth-century New England
barn in Northwood, New Hampshire.
