Artist Statement for Chloe Mooberry

Stepping back from the canvas with a paintbrush in my mouth and two others in my hand, I can see myself translated into my artwork. I look down at the pools of colorful paint that cover my palette and see the depth of saying exactly what I want to say with my work. It’s a delightful challenge to blend the optimal elements of meaning and content with color, brushwork, and composition. With every new piece comes a new chance to convey something. The goal is to illicit a response. To see people contemplate the message in my work is the ultimate reward; I want them not only to enjoy the piece as they view it, I want them to take something away from that piece which they can keep with them always.
One look at my paint laden overalls, my choice in canvas shapes, and my bright yellow tool chest full of materials and mediums is usually enough to illustrate that I have an artistic style that is uniquely me. To start a piece I begin by underpainting with colors intended to enhance the final work; I deal with color very deliberately because I feel it is one of the most important aesthetic components. Next I set out working around the canvas painting detail areas usually starting with the background and moving towards the foreground. There is always a delicate and intriguing tension between these two hemispheres reminiscent of the duality of my own personality. The background is usually very dynamic and full of freedom and the foreground focuses on attention to detail and realistic perspective. In the polarity of these two approaches, the work comes to life with an overall vitality.
Please enjoy my work and feel free to contact me to chat about existing pieces or to talk about future works you would like to commission.
