Why Did You Become An Artist:
The camera has allowed me to find artistic talent within. This inanimate object continue to give me the ability to see that which one normally passes by in the rush of daily life. It will forever be my foundation. The computer and my drawing tablet allow me to take my artistry a step further and create entirely new pieces only bounded by the limits of my imagination.
Personal Biography
Cheryl Hrudka has been a professional photographer for over twenty years. Like virtually all-new photographers, she initially embraced the assumed verisimilitude of the out there. However, the dispassion of the camera and its mechanical documentary implications was tempered by a warmer vision. Her early works are lyrical and whimsical. They shun the concept of the intervening intelligence and invite the viewer into a direct and altogether personal relationship. Like the early masters of the medium, she assumed the role of a fundamentalist. The viewer need not be told what to think. He or she is gently reminded of knowledge long since gained and intuitively held. Her early work is an engraved invitation. You can return to Cheryls work repeatedly. Her photographs become your friends.
Cheryls recent work has evolved from out there to in here with her increasing interest in the everyday objects that people see, but do not really look at as they walked by them. This is what led her to the infinite possibilities of abstraction. Perhaps not strangely, her current abstractions maintain the intimacy of her previous work. Again, the invitation is tantamount. The viewers conclusions are never threatened, but respected and allowed to prosper. On these mandalas, we each transpose our own version of events, our own stories. These images are at once geometric and biomorphic. In their mutability, they mimic our dreams. They mimic our lives.
