"Connell's figures actually looked burned. They are composed of bits of newspaper dipped in tar and built around rude armatures of blackened wood. A dusting of sand gives them an even more ashen appearance, though they also resemble heaps of rotting leaves..."

John Connell was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1940. He attended Brown University, in Providence, RI (1958-1960), the Art Students League, NY (1960-1961) and New York University (1962). He has work in numerous public and private collections....
