Artist Statement for Courtney Jacobs

The first brush stroke starts a mapping process of constant motion and discovery. Through the act of pushing, scraping, dripping, and throwing the paint, I create a visual history of my own response to these complex, chaotic elements. The journey I take mirrors my own personal philosophy. In my experience—no matter how much planning takes place—the future remains unknowable, but by being fully aware and integrated in the present moment I can be more conscious of the decisions that help to shape my future.
Nowhere is this more apparent to me than in the process of creation where my art becomes a personal meditation. By using many colors and textures freely, my paintings are born out of energetic pandemonium. This process continues as I search to bring balance and harmony to the chaos by synchronizing multiple diverse elements in one final composition.
