Artist Statement:
A definition of my work would be Abstract Expressionism, contemporary, or capturing an emotion through Figurative Expressionism, but at the same time the work is Primal. Much of my inspiration comes from an emotion at a moment and/or the environment (a stones, a tree limb, or any of the elements) realizing and understanding of the 3rd dimensions textures and surfaces and how color may be probable or improbable from nature to the work, this works for me in both aspects. At the same time, there is a definite line where nature ends and “man-made” begins and how the environment effects synthetic materials to attempt to bring it back to the earth. My work is spontaneous to my feelings in the moment yet to express the single thought takes calculation and planning. The preparation of cement and natural blending of colors (or lack of) is essential in expressing my original thought or idea. For me painting is my Personal Zone of Freedom. Much of the time it is freedom from Form, Fit, and Function, free from restrictions and standards.
