Artist Statement:
My life has been an overwhelming, but fantastic journey. I have learned the importance of family, the power of the Circle, unconditional love and creativity during my journey. Because of my journey, I am able to create these paintings.
I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey in 1953. I have had a love for color ever since I have been old enough to hold a crayon. I am a self-taught artist. Each painting is a Jack Anderson original. A moment captured in time. These paintings all reflect my Native-American and Afro-American background along with my love of music. Every brushstroke, every color combination, every finished piece is a part of me, a part of my soul and my journey through life.
I have a very wide range of influences: my wife, Cynthia, John Coltrane, Willie Butler, Malcolm X, Russell Means, Picasso, Sitting Bull, Billie Holiday, Jacob Lawrence, Paul Gauguin and Joanne Shenandoah, just to name a few.
