Artist Statement: By Dan G. Meyer, November 2006
Thanks for taking the time to look at my work and for reading this. If you found the work interesting, take a moment and please sign my guestbook. I enjoy the feedback.
I make pictures, that's my job. Your job is to really see what I have done. I don't know which is harder!
As a rule I try not to talk to much about painting. I talked art in my youth and with time it has been my experience that one could talk about it or one could do it. This for me created a great work ethic. I have friends, painters who talk the greatest paintings ever made and when they do paint they agonize over every brush stroke, justifying everything they do. For me, better to be a man of action. Better to just do it, trust my knowledge and cut the dead wood out with time. In the end a painter is remembered by what he painted not by what he said about it. I leave words to the art historians, if there are any. I did my part.
The world turns, the artist paints. I follow my muse, rallying the memories of past work and see through that to what possibilities might be and that is enough!
I was lucky enough to get a studio art education, with a BFA that I received in 1978, in painting and printmaking from Parsons School Of Design in New York City. I live and work (quietly) now in a house that I built in 1981 on twelve acres of land with my wife Sarah, in the beautiful Butternut Valley of central New York State where there is a small, but thriving, art community.
My work can be found in many private collections in the United States and my giclee prints, that I started producing six years ago, are in selected print galleries in the United States. I try to have a one-man show each year of my work and as many group shows as I can squeeze into my schedule without effecting my time too adversely in the studio.
