Artist Statement for Daniel Pontet

ART AND ITS CONCEPTION

In the creative process, we can start from reality, but we must find our own way of communicating, resisting the temptation to give in to simple imitation. Reality is only a point of reference. Art is and must be abstract to the extend that it makes use of ideas, not objects. But being abstract does not mean being empty of content. I feel that if an artist has nothing to say, nothing to communicate, he can't create art. In addition, he has to find a way of doing so.
