Artist Statement for Dan Osmundson

The the last two that you see here deal with animated landscapes, i.e., my fantasy vision of nature- moving, changing, alive. There are also several other paintings in this series that I'll try to put up at my website: http://dano-dna.com

The first two that you see here are a small sample of just some of my original oil paintings from 1991 which deal with difficult relationship issues and sexuality. There are several other paintings in this series. I found it interesting that there were some strong reactions to this series; most seemed to be intrigued by the content and imagery but there were some that couldn't handle this apparently.

One large painting "Running with the Cross" was defaced while hanging in the Music Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. This painting depicted a nude woman (drawn very geometrically) from a side view running, holding a cross in her hand with a look of horror on her face while looking back over her shoulder. Later the painting turned up missing. I still have photos of the original if anyone would like to see it. I hope the vandal(s) feel relief now but I wish I could have learned what prompted him/her/them to act in this manner. As for the disappearance of the painting, I also wish I could learn why someone felt the need to take this piece. It was, for a time in my life, a very personally emotional and painful piece - cathartic now. I really hope that it helped someone to do what they did to this painting.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the "for sale" items, or are interested in acquiring a digital print, please contact me via email. I can also accept payment via PayPal and Google Checkout. I am also in the early stages of offering my artwork for sale through dano-dna.com in my artshop: http://dano-dna.com/artshop/

If you'd like a quick response from me please send me a message via my "contact form": http://dano-dna.com/contact.shtml

Thanks,
Dan Osmundson
