Artist Statement:
Hello, Bonjour, Salam, Shalom, Bonjorno, Guten Tag, Dobry den, Namaste
Since my father is no longer with us, I, Marjan Zahed-Kindersley, have decided or rather have been deciding to set up a website for my late father's work. Whether he would have wished this or not, I cannot really say, for he used to change his mind on a forever-wave. However, I think, that he would have appreciated having his work displayed and perhaps touched a few hearts and have enhanced lives.
I have, as usual, deliberately scanned the paintings badly. They are not really for sale and I know that he used to work hours and hours, months and months on his paintings and a mere electronic glance would give a feel of the paintings, but not do them justice. (Absolutely meticulous brushwork, sometimes with blinding goldleaf.)
I'm hoping that his original paintings will be seen more often.
In the meantime, please, bear with me and I shall update this page as much as I can....

The following are extracts from a preface Davoud Zahed wrote (his book of paintings):
"What does it really matter whether I was born on 3 September 1936 in Teheran, or on some other date in some other place, since temporal chronology and spatial division are in themselves pure conventions, and cannot affect art which is essentially an indeterminate phenomenon! It sometimes even seems to me superfluous to sign works of art, for are we not often dealing with a completely gratuitous act?
In my opinion, the life of the artist and the conditions that prevailed when his work appeared cannot in themselves be adequate criteria for admiring or condemning the work as such. Moreover, no reason whatsoever, however cogent it may be, can release the creator from his responsibility as an artist. The work he creates is his unique output placed there before us for all time. It is the imperishable work that lasts and not its author who is moral and subject to decay."
"I started painting quite late in life. Why? I have no idea. But I always regret not having been a musician. At a very early age I was greatly drawn to poetry. I worked at it, and even had some success as a poet, but subsequent ly I ran away from it, though still retaining a poetic way of thought."
"Art is neither predictable like evolution in nature, nor in a state of anarchic disorganization like the chaos of history. It enjoys complete liberty which the artist sets in motion."
"If works of art have any intrinsic value, they will in any case be judged on their own merits;if not, what use is it to talk about them endlessly with reference to the past, to the insignificant details of this or that act, journey or event-secondary circumstances which in the final analysis are relevant only to the subjective path followed by the individual."
"It is not only children who draw objects after passing them through the filter of their magic vision."
