Artist Statement for Daya Bonnie Rao

I feel drawn to ancient symbols, especially those relating to women. I appreciate the color and texture of Matisse, the imagination and color of Chagall, the innovation and craftsmanship of Rauschenburg, Jasper Johns and the visual voice of feminist artists.
I love to travel to experience people and things within their own environments and culture. I love color and texture, especially vibrant color and organic texture. I feel and paint the interconnectedness of shape, color and form, and of people and places which span across time.
Most recent media explorations include acrylics, watercolor, and printmaking.
