Artist Statement:
My work is... well what is my work? It consists of stylized bulky figures. The represent the social imbalance of a positive image for overweight people. The weight of the figure creates a fluid composition. The elements of bold color, line and shape reveal a controlled impulse of rhythm. The circular or rounded forms are balanced with angular viusal pauses. I create an intimate play of line, symbols, and color.
My work seems at first glance to be about color. I prefer color to not be directly linked to emotions. Color is too often a stagnant definition for feelings. And most often I utilize color as a challenge. The creation of new color schemes. A game of limiting my color palette. The process of color security so I don't over think color.
Drawing is my foundation and inspiration. I entertain and confront myself through pencil graffitti. Painting is an extention of my sketchbooks. The figure gives form to a canvas in a canvas. Abstract shapes and symbols compose a synopation of visual accents. A mixture of acrylic and wood glue exaggerate the depth of color and texture.
