Artist Statement for Debora Everett

I would first like to thank you for taking the time to look at my work.
My passion is painting wildlife and scenery. My subjects include black bear, wolves, moose, whitetail deer, loons and more.

I use a 3 dimensional natural canvas commonly called Artist Conk or " Shelf Mushrooms" Each Canvas varies in size, shape and
character. the three dimensional quality of this natural canvas make the paintings come alive.

Please visit my website: www.debeverett.com

My interest in art began when I was very young. My early childhood is one of fond memories. I grew up in the country. My parents owned a small farm with twenty one acres, and I had the freedom to explore the nature that surrounded me.

My interest in drawing came from my love of horses and the outdoors. I started horseback riding at age eight and owned my first horse (a Morgan) at age eleven. At that time I also had an obsession with drawing horses. It would help build the skills that I use today.

Presently I live with my husband in rural New York near the foothills of the Adirondacks. I am a self taught artist that truly has been given a gift from my creator. I try to capture God's natural beauty in all my paintings.

Through the years I have painted on many surfaces; canvas, wood, slate, saws, and sea shells. However my earliest recollection is painting on a tree mushroom, that was my first 'canvas'. Now I have returned to that surface for much of my work. I have found the irregularities of the fungus add dimension and life to my paintings.

After working full time for a bank for many years, I left to pursue my art as a full time profession. I find this new phase in my life to be more meaningful and fulfilling.
