Artist Statement for Deborah Nicholson

|
My art celebrates that moment of eye contact when we become engaged with a non-human, yet feeling and reasoning being. My work is essentially about sharing that engagement. It’s about triggering a heart-swelling emotional response within the viewer.
Presently, my enthusiasm is directed toward the always engaging cow, with their strange yet beautiful forms and inquisitive nature. In this series of digital serigraphs, I've melded precise, flat colours and pixilated edges with the mutability of painterly marks. Each is uniquely original and the image will not be sold a second time.
My intent in this series is to infuse the viewer with the same delight in the engagement that I feel when I step into the herd.
