I came to be an artist relatively late in life. Initially, I was willing to do what was expected of me (Sciences and Law at University). I never tired of the learning, but I always felt something was missing.
For me, being a painter combines the best of all worlds: the unlimited lifetime commitment to study, learn and create, together with the bonus of working with the most satisfying and sensuous of materials. The early recognition that I have received from exhibition jurors and collectors has been a tremendous affirmation of my personal commitment to work as a professional artist.
Colour is now the primary focus of my life and my work. Art has the power to touch us deep in our souls and at the core of our humanity. My work combines elements of realism and abstraction that I believe allows for accessibility without sacrificing the magic of using imagination to “fill in the blanks”.

Commissions for Donna Decter:
|
|
|
Commissioning a painting by Donna is a pleasant and stress-free experience.
The process that Donna uses to create each Performers painting (Donna’s series of musicians and singers) naturally lends itself to collectors having a very clear picture of the composition and color scheme before the actual painting begins.
First, Donna creates a graphite sketch laying out the basic composition of the painting.
Then, using the sketch as her guide, she creates a collage in which she uses pieces of colored paper to map out the color scheme she intends for the painting.
Finally, Donna starts the actual painting, basing it on the sketch and the collage.
When collectors commission a Performers painting by Donna, they have the option of deciding if they would like to be involved in approving the sketch and approving the collage before Donna puts brush to canvas.
If you would like to commission a painting by Donna, or would like more information, please contact Donna.
