Artist Statement for David Herold
|
|
|
Welcome to my portfolio! My name is David Herold and I live in historic El Paso, Texas. I recently got back into art after a brief 30 year absence while pursuing a hectic career in Insurance and Financial Planning. One morning I woke up and decided that I didn't want to do that anymore!
I graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico in l972 with a double major in Art, History, and a minor in business. I studied art under world renowned oil painter, Elmer Schooley, and water color artist Ray Drew.
I grew to love water color and was drawn to Native American faces and figures. The Native American history is sad and overlooked by many. The culture, traditions and customs facinate me. To be able to hang on to your culture in this day and time is truly remarkable.
I learned that you can tell a lot about people in my former career. I met with literally thousands of differnt people in that 30 year time frame. I learned that you can tell alot from their eyes. You can detect joy, happiness, sadness, horrow, truthfulness, and yes lies. Believe me when I say,"The Eyes Tell The Story!" I study the eyes of my subjects and try to feel what they are feeling when I paint. I hope to convey those feelings to all that look at my paintings. I work primarily in water color and India Ink.
