Welcome to Mei-ying Dell'Aquila's Portfolio.
I use icons and symbolism to express my life experience. My cultural origins are represented through use of Terra Cotta soldiers, pearls, fish, flowers, etc. Additionally I expresses my transformation through use of the butterfly. Finally, my immersion into this new culture is displayed in the Liberty series. I borrow from the past, either Chinese or western. I will continue to employ historical, cultural or myths influences into my paintings. While Symbolism and metaphor have a major impact in my paintings, I will also emphasize on visual tension and great composition.
