Artist Statement:
I have always been interested
in how light, atmosphere, and
color- these almost spiritual
phenomena around us, define
visually the object in our
space. What I believe is most
marvelous about paint is its
“creative” behavior- thin,
finely blended strokes slowly
"rematerialize" its subject on
the canvas, while gestural,
thick, solid paint celebrates
the materiality of the paint
and canvas itself. At some
point, these works are
abstracted just right, to
represent not the surface of
things, but a feeling- that
lonesome fascination with, for
instance, strange new
buildings in an unfamiliar
location- you turn your head
to see them, but the lone
memory that lingers is the
most compelling one. I
experience these sublime
emotions as the visual
information of a landscape,
figure, or architecture
completes its mental voyage in
the form of paint on a
surface....
