Artist Statement:
Dieter Hammer was born in 1969 in Munich, Germany. He started painting at an early age. In the 80ies Hammer worked mainly in acrylic on canvas and made the paint he used by himself and experimented with different raw pigments and media. His early style was full of symbolism and later changed to a kind of absolute painting.
Presently Hammer works mainly in charcoal, black chalk and graphite on paper and descovered digital photography as a means of artistic expression as a contraposto to painting and graphics.
His artistic work is likewise influenced by european and asian concepts of aesthetics and philosophy.
He studied at Sotheby´s Institute of Art, London and read philosophy at the Jesuite School of Philosophy, Munich, and holds an MA degree in philosophy.
Today Dieter Hammer lives and works in the town of Freising, Germany. ...
