| Your Personal Biography |
Born in Belorussia in 1959. Started sculpting at the age of 7. In 1967 at the age of 12 received a Gold Medal for his line etching, “Self Portrait” at the National Exhibition of Youth Art in Moscow, Russia. He became a student of the Sculpture Department of Glebov Art College in Minsk, Belorussia in 1970 and graduated in 1974. In 1978 completed his first commission, Monumental Relief dedicated to the Russian Revolution on a public building in Gomel, Belorusia. In 1980 he became a student at Mukhina Academy of Arts in St. Petersbug and graduated in 1985 with honors. Until 1989 he took active part in national exhibitions and worked on commissioned projects.
In 1990 he arrived in the United States and has been continuing to create his art for private collectors and international exhibitions. He has won acclaim for his work exhibited in the USA and overseas. In 1993 he was commissioned to create a Lester Levy Humanitarian Award of which U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski of Maryland became the first recipient. And in 1994 his sculpture, “Crying Violin” became an International Elie Wiesel Holocaust Remembrance Award which was presented to Steven Spielberg for his movie “Schindler’s List”. In 1996 he became a member of the National Sculpture Society. His work can be found museums and public places such as the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, New Jersey, Ministry of Culture in Moscow, Gomel Historical Museum in Belorussia, Kolodzei Foundation in Moscow and New York. His work can also be found in numerous private collections around the world: USA, England, France, Russia, China, Japan, Brazil, Venezuela, Switzerland, Israel, Italy, Canada and Germany.
In 2006 he was honored with a National Sculpture Society Award for non-traditional sculpture. Mr. Gerrman currently represented by Wally Findlay Galleries International.
