Artist Statement:
Dion Laurent is a fourth generation artist who travels the world for inspiration and subject matter. Born to an English mother and American father, Dion creates while traveling and plays off of his travel works for his extensive series of studio works. His varied styles address social, political and environmental issues on a global scale
Dion's work has been shown around the world in such diverse venues as Art Forum Montreux Biennial, Switzerland, the Florence Bienniale, Italy, The Art Car Museum in Houston, Texas, The Tennessee State Museum, Texas A&M University Visual Arts Gallery,The Bayennale, and galleries and other venues throughout the US, Japan, Asia, Europe and Turkey.
His new media works are featured on Furtherfield.org and archived on the Rhizome.org database of the New Museum, NY,NY.
Dion has lived, traveled and painted in Europe, Southeast Asia, the U.S. and Caribbean. He often intermingles the works from many countries with his studio works, and concentrates for several years on the development of various series, exhibits and installations. His exhibits generally are installations including paintings, found-object sculptural works, video and new media.
