Artist Statement:
Woman
by
Doug Lester
Produced over a period of many
years, this collection is a
statement of my view of
Woman., Life and death are the
essentials of human existence;
my images reflect the female
form which brings life, then
makes it interesting. I
believe these images may
reflect some sort of search
for a purity or cleanliness
which has rarely existed in my
life.
I believe that Woman is the
force which prevents men from
settling into a form of
barbarism. Women give us life.
They raise and by and large
educate us. They teach us
values and make us pick up our
underwear and galoshes. They
are the civilizing force in
human society. They have
started wars (Helen), but are
more likely to prevent them.
They make us wear our rain
coats and eat our vegetables;
but they also make us crazy.
This collection of images is a
symbolic representation of the
way I see Woman. My images run
the gamut from feminine
softness through strength,
dark and fair, Woman is the
essence of beauty with a
little playfulness in between.
