Artist Statement:
America is strange. It works on so many different levels. You can be and do anything in America, depending on where you are. I'm sure if I moved to Alabama I would be a totally different person. America is a contradiction, and I think that's why a lot of people are attracted to it. It can also be very hermetic, you forget a lot about things going on in the rest of the world. Even after 2001, America seems to be floating in a different sphere from the rest of the globe. That has its advantages and its dangers. I think America is a great place to work, as long as you're informed about how the country manifests itself in other parts of the world, and within our own society. Madonna's relatively new single "American Life" sums up the way I feel about this country. In the first verse she asks: "Do I have to change my name? Will it get me far?"...
