Artist Statement:
In his work, Damy v.d. Waal searches for his roots. He wants to know how his ancestors lived, what the myths mean and where the histories and myths mix up. In his wood/linoleum printings he tells the stories, in black and white, bringing the past to the present.
The stories go from the stone age untill the middle ages, with pagan and christian influences, with myth and history/herstory. The printings often give a critical eye to the modern world as well. Modern civilisation gives us all we need in material, but often makes us brain dead as well.
