Artist Statement:
As an artist living in South Boston, Deb finds a limitless source for her paintings. Sunny days and moonlit nights find her painting on neighborhood street corners. When painting outdoors is not possible, she works in her studio on larger scale paintings and works derived from old family photos or from small studies and photos of her on-site locations. Her approach to painting can be summed up in a quote of one of her favorite painters:
The profoundest order is revealed in what is most casual.
- Fairfield Porter, 1969
What interests her most about plein air painting is how sunlight breaks up form when it falls on an object . When working in this manner time is of the essence. She must return to the outdoor location at the same time, each day for the short period of time when the sun and shadows are at the same angle and position. Her choice of subject matter, such as old stores, Laundromats and antique cars pays homage to a disappearing landscape. She hopes that with these paintings she is able to celebrate these landmarks.
