Artist Statement for Laura Duggan
Laura Duggan has painted all of her life. She majored in painting and printmaking in college and after graduation she worked as a graphic designer. Her work combines design element s and love of fine arts and architecture. Much of her work is inspired by her travels throughout the world including workshops in Provence and private painting tours in Tuscany.
She loves to be outdoors, especially near beaches and wetlands. Laura paints en plein air from time to time, but prefers to create most of her work in her studio in Manhattan. She likes to show glimpses of images that catch her attention during her travels, whether it is on her walks or as she passes by in a car, train or even a plane.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries such as Atlantic Gallery and A.I.R. in New York City and museums on Long Island such as Guild Hall in East Hampton and The Parrish Museum in Southampton. She has recently completed several commissions and is represented by Marcel Scheiner in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Modernart Editions published 10 fine art prints of her landscape paintings followed by 4 commissioned prints about wine which can be found on www.allposters.com and www.art.com
Laura won the Catherine and Theo Hios Award for Landscape at Guild Hall in East Hampton (2001) and recently won the Landscape Award 2003 for her painting "Big Window" at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit.
She participated in an art residency in Hungary in 2003.
