Artist Statement:
As a child, I first painted on the backs of blue prints my father brought home from work. My pictures gravitated then, as always, to the natural world, often animals or mountains. I continue to have a great interest and concern for the natural world. My images are all of places that I have visited in British Columbia. I have spent time in these spectacular landscapes and then later have recalled or recaptured them in paint. Although my intention when painting is not to accurately portray a specific place but to express a moment in the life of the spirit - those ineffable moments we yearn for but which slip by just out of grasp, not quite understood - I do also capture the essence of these natural spaces. Many people have recognized the locations even from the small details of the scenes that I have painted. Perhaps there is a kinship created in the souls of those affected by the beauty of a specific place.
