Emily McElmurry: Description
of artworks
Paintings
When working with a canvas I
find it important to savor the
history of the canvas. Each
time I work with the surface
some parts are preserved,
while others are transformed.
This becomes obvious when
examining the canvas. To me,
every square inch of the
canvas is important. It is
not only about the image
overall, but rather each
section, part, tidbit,
whatever you want to call it,
deserves to be looked at,
touched, dealt with. I work
with the canvas using a
process of layering and taking
away. You will see images
that are over and under each
other, while other images are
implied. You will find
movement and strokes.
Overall, you will see textures
that make you want to touch
the canvas. The history, the
story, of the canvas can be
found in each and every inch.
