Welcome to Elizabeth Asche Douglas's Portfolio. Browse Asche Douglas's body of work: For me, Formalism is not out of date, but essential to art making. The universal creation narrative tells us that in the beginning, all was formless until divine utterance made it otherwise. Form-giving is the basis for art making. Forms themselves are expressive, pushing out in all dimensions to convey every conceivable kind of meaning. My favorite definition of art was articulated half a century ago by philosopher/aesthetician Suzanne K. Langer, who said quite simply, "Art is symbolic form," evocative of "living" experience. That is the aim of my art.
