Artist Statement:
Erotic art has been with us since the earliest of times. Its main purpose has been to sexually arouse and seduce through expressions of lust, carnal desire, passion, voyeurism, fantasy and beauty.
However lost in eroticas carnal nature, but not limited by it, is the fact that it has also been used throughout time to satirize and question human nature along with its religions, values, belief systems and politics.
Within erotic art, much like other arts, one can find artists expressing fulfillment, discontent, humour, pathos, romance, greed, happiness, delight, wonder, idyllic paradises and the struggles between good and evil. The main difference is that more often than not the subject matter is considered obscene and immoral.
Many attempts have been made to define erotica and separate it from its blood relative pornography in order to make it more acceptable to a wider audience. However a conclusive definition and a high degree of acceptability still eludes us because what constitutes erotic art, varies from one person to another, from period to period and from culture to culture.
Erotica has survived time and will continue to survive the many challenges, censorship, laws and social values that keep it living in the fringes ...
