Artist Statement:
Landscapes , in their
traditional form, I must
admit, have never appealed to
me much. I suppose it's
because they so often depict
what we find charming and
"pretty" around us, and ignore
the rest--almost like a form
of false advertising for this
thing we call life.
As soon as Dave and I moved to
Pennsylvania, I was itching to
paint again, but at the same
time, craved a reprieve from
my other projects, which pull
so much out of me. So I began
to consider my
surroundings--an easy thing to
do since they were so vastly
different from the ranges of
Montana.
But instead of the post-card
perfect rolling hills and
banks of wildflowers and oak
trees, I became interested in
the simple human settings of
the Main Streets we walked
through every day. There is
indeed composition to be found
in the reflections of
store-front windows and
stop-signs and the peaked
roofs of salt-box frame
houses. This is where I find
comfort, insight, and indeed
home.
