Artist Statement for Chris Hembree
|
|
|
Equinox Metalcraft is a small, family-operated studio that focuses on custom and one of a kind, metal art furniture. Artist and designer, Chris Hembree handcrafts each piece, with a focus on quality and functionality. We are based in the beautiful Snoqualmie Valley, 30 miles east of Seattle Washington. This lush, natural setting serves as inspiration for many of Chris's designs.
As a third generation craftsman, Chris began his journey with metalcrafting as a boy in his father's shop. His natural ability and early exposure to the art of precision guided him in his youthful exploration of design and fabrication.
While traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, then across the oceans as a deep-sea sailor, he developed a quiet confidence and vision for an artful, conscious life. Earning his degree in Northwest ecology from Evergreen State College deepened his connection to the natural world. Pursuing his love of functional art and nature, he has returned to the peaceful forest of his youth to create elegant, functional art. With reverence and humor, his timeless, organic designs embrace the precision and chaos of the natural world.
The artist lives with his wife in the woods of Duvall, Washington.
