Artist Statement:
Christine Sargent began her
painting career in her teens
when she started painting
portraits for commission.
After graduating from High
School, she went on to study
painting and illustration,
earning a bachelor's degree in
fine art at the University of
Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
She has shown her work
professionally in galleries
and exhibitions and has also
published work as an
illustrator.
Her paintings are made up of
layers of vivid color
contrasted with deep blues or
muted whites. Inspired by her
faith, these works attempt to
evoke a sense of deep
spiritual feeling.
Influenced by artists such as
Wassily Kandinsky, these works
strive to conjure a sense of
truth and beauty in an
expressionistic way.
